Skills Shortage: The Construction Industry Needs You

lines

Currently, in the UK, there are many construction projects in progress and an overwhelming number in the pipeline. These projects are vital for the growth and development of the country, with housing being a huge priority.

But despite its booming industry, construction is facing a major skills shortage. There is so much work to be done, but not enough trained or skilled workers to keep up with demand. In fact, it’s been estimated that the industry will need around 2 million more workers within the next three years to be able to meet the demands.

This skills shortage isn’t all bad news. For construction trainees and job hunters, this creates a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a thriving industry. For those who can’t think of anything worse than working 9-5 at a desk, and love to work with their hands, the construction industry is the perfect career path.

Even on a single construction site, there are so many different roles required to bring the project to fruition. This means that there is always a job suitable for anyone. When starting in an entry-level position, there is so much opportunity to learn a variety of skills and take different training courses to start to specialise in an area that they really excel at.

Construction workers are absolutely vital to the positive developments made to everyday life. The projects they work on create and evolve the environment that people depend on. Whether it’s a road, school, sewage system or home, the things that are built are the foundations of a community.

If we don’t have enough construction workers to fulfil these projects, then we risk the reduction of standards and a community that ceases to develop and move forward with the times. Projects will take a lot longer to reach completion and many planned works which aren’t considered a priority will be put on the backburner indefinitely.

Luckily there are many construction training facilities working tirelessly to help empower our future workforces. While the skills shortage may be an issue, it’s one that can be tackled by those who are up to the challenge.
